Introducing Children to saving at School

Cardiff & Vale Credit Union work with schools to run savings initiatives for pupils in Cardiff primary and secondary schools. Pupils go along to a designated place in the school once a week to deposit their pocket money into a junior savings account with Cardiff & Vale Credit Union. The weekly savings club can be run by teaching assistants, volunteers, pupils aged 16 and over and parents from the local community. Children are encouraged to save their money in a safe place, keep their own record of their weekly balance and take advantage of the annual dividend which will make more of their money in the long run.

There are over 120 school savers in Cardiff, saving for holidays, games and toys etc! Some of the schools in Cardiff offering the school savings club are Llanedeyrn Primary, St John Lloyd Primary, Gabalfa Primary, Woodlands High School and Ysgol Erw'r Delyn.  In the Vale of Glamorgan Barry Island Primary and Cadoxton are amongst those that have signed up to the school savers scheme.

All schools in Cardiff can get involved in this scheme. For more information on how your school can start their own savings club, contact ccu@cardiffcu.com or call 029 2087 2373.
