We are so proud to announce that 4 of our nominees won their categories at the Credit Unions of Wales Awards 2024. Let’s celebrate their success:
Elaine Edwards – Outstanding Member of Staff Award
Our very own Elaine won the Outstanding Member of Staff Award! You may have spoken to Elaine or met her in our Cardiff or Barry offices. Elaine is a master of all trades within Cardiff and Vale Credit Union. From member services to loan administration, she is the voice of reason for the team, providing guidance on any query. Her broad expertise and willingness to help make her an invaluable resource for both staff and members.
What truly sets Elaine apart is her commitment to the Cardiff and Vale community – especially in Barry. Elaine is a friendly face to those that visit our Barry branch, for both members and colleagues. She frequently extends her support to our local volunteers, ensuring they receive assistance when needed. Elaine’s efforts significantly enhance our community and leave a lasting impact.
We are so proud to have her on our team, and are over the moon that her hard work has been recognised!
Barry Island Primary School – School Partnership Award
We are so proud that Barry Island Primary School has been recognised in their dedication to our School Savers Club programme!
Every Friday morning, the school café comes alive as two enthusiastic pupil volunteers wear their Cardiff and Vale Credit Union tops and help run the school bank. This initiative is a core part of our commitment to making financial education accessible and engaging. The program is well-publicised within the school, and our presence at assemblies, particularly during “Money Week,” has reinforced the importance of financial literacy across the curriculum.
Our engagement with Barry Island Primary School has created lasting relationships within the community, with several staff members and their families becoming active participants in our financial programs. This partnership highlights our dedication to empowering young minds with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate their financial futures confidently.
Llinos Jonathan – Volunteer of the Year Award
Llinos, our Board Member, won the Volunteer of the Year Award!
Llinos has played a pivotal role as our Consumer Duty Champion, ensuring our compliance with the FCA Consumer Duty regulations. Llinos has helped safeguard our members, ensuring they receive fair treatment, and clear, transparent communication. Her efforts were instrumental in our recent win at the Consumer Duty Awards in the Leadership in Consumer Finance category. She has also helped us work towards digital inclusivity. She was vital in the process of making our website just right for our members.
Llinos embodies the spirit of aiding others, combining professional knowledge with a genuine passion for helping our members, and we are so glad she has been recognised with this award.
Cardiff Council – Payroll Partner Award
We are so happy that Cardiff Council have been recognised for their hard work!

As part of their commitment to socially responsible initiatives, Cardiff Council promotes their partnership with us and Moneyworks in its procurement strategy and encourages contractors and care sector employers to adopt similar schemes.
In addition, Cardiff Council’s support of CVCU at public sector events and its support through social media further highlight its leadership in promoting financial wellness across Cardiff. This award celebrates Cardiff Council's outstanding role as a model public sector employer championing the financial wellbeing of its employees and the wider community. Their win is very well deserved!
